Protecting Mountain Gorillas and Virunga

About Me

11 Mar 2009

I started working in Mutsora in 2007 and I continue to be based here in the north of the park as the Chief Mechanic. I travel throughout Virunga to repair trucks, cars, motorbikes – basically anything with wheels and an engine! As you know our roads are extremely bad after over a decade of war and our vehicles have for the most part also seen better times. The roads are unpaved, with many holes, and the weather conditions are also harsh on the body of vehicles, so a great deal of maintenance is required.

I am a big football fan and I think I would have been an excellent centre-forward! But I am not complaining as I get to work submerged in the flora and fauna of Virunga. I love my children and they are proud of the work that I do. Working for conservation and nature brings meaning to my job as I get to play a part in protecting the park for my family.
